Gorakhgad Fort: Day-Trip Thrills! Easily reachable from Mumbai & Pune. Unknown history, but famous for its vertical rock climb and epic views. Named after Saint Gorakhnath. Part of a dense forest region with Machchindragad. No major battles recorded. Key details: Rock-cut caves, water cisterns. Once a stopover on the Junnar/Naneghat route. Offers water and accommodation.

Explore Gorakhgad's Highlights: * **Entry & Water:** Pass two cisterns right after the entrance. The fort has 14 cisterns total, but only three near the cave are potable. * **Caves:** A small step-way leads down to large caves carved into the main rock. * **Pinnacle Views:** Look for two large frangipani trees leaning over the valley. Don't miss the excellent sight of Machchindragad\! * **Pinnacle Climb:** The trek isn't complete without reaching the top\! Facing the cave, go right, then look for steps on your left. Climb with extreme care. * **Fort-Top:** The small summit holds a Mahadeo temple with Nandi. Enjoy a wide panorama: Siddhagad, Machchindragad, Ahupe Ghat, and Jeevdhan in the Naneghat area to the north.

How to Reach
Gorakhgad: How to Get There Option 1: Via Kalyan/Karjat * **From Kalyan/Karjat:** Travel to Murbad. * **Next:** Reach Dhasai from Mhase junction. * **Final Leg:** Take a jeep or S.T. bus to Dehri village (base of Gorakhgad). * **Trek:** Find the carved-out entrance behind the Vitthal temple. * **Time:** Approx. 2 hours trek to the fort. * **Landmarks:** See two prominent pinnacles: smaller Machchindragad, bigger Gorakhgad. Camping possible at Vitthal temple in Dehri.Option 2: Via Milhe (Easy Route) * Reach Dehri village from Murbad via Milhe. This path is very easy.Option 3: Combine with Siddhagad (Trekkers' Trail) * **Start:** Travel from Murbad to Narivli (Siddhagad base). Stay overnight on Siddhagad. * **Descent:** Start early morning. Follow the trail along the stream into the dense forest. * **Path:** Proceed right to a waterfall, leading to a small plateau. * **Plateau Landmarks:** Small Mahadeo temple and two tombs. * **Caution:** The path ahead is along a vertical rock-wall; walk carefully\! * **Arrival:** Reach the rock-dug entrance of Gorakhgad. * **Time:** Approx. 3 hours trek from Siddhagad.
Important Notes
⚠️ **Safety Alert for Gorakhgad\!** The fort approach and rock stairs to the pinnacle top are steep. Take extra care during monsoon/strong winds. Wear shoes with better grip and avoid dangling clothes/bags.
